DISCLAIMER: beast wars is my favourite show at the moment, and i think it explores some really interesting topics and philosophy and has some really great and compelling characters! i do think more people should watch this show and appreciate it, and i think the best way to do so is as spoiler-free as possible. i've tried to write about the show in a vague enough way as to not spoil major plot / character elements, but i do go further into depth past (not this one!) spoiler warnings :) if you're interested at all, you can watch the show for free on youtube here!
Beast Wars: Transformers is a 1996 CG animated cartoon set in the Transformers universe. instead of the usual autbots vs decepticons however, this series follows the maximals vs the predacons. the series begins with the maximals chasing the predacons through space until they both crash land on an unfamiliar planet in an unfamiliar time, due to Megatron's (not that one) pursuit of the golden disk (yes that one). so who are we dealing with here!!
in the maximal corner:
Optimus Primal - our fearless leader! transforms into a gorilla. optimus by name only, he's a completely seperate character from G1's Optimus Prime. responsible, intelligent, dad :) not against joking around with his crew, you get the impression hes not just their leader but their friend as well.
Rhinox - hes almost like a shaman. transforms into a rhinoceros. often the man in the chair, he's an excellent engineer, healer, and teacher. the best character
Rattrap - demolitions expert! transforms into a rat. genuinely did not like him when i first started watching. we're all gonna die
Cheetor - cheeto. transforms into a cheetah. kind of the bumblebee of the series- he's eager, young, lots of energy, often trying to earn respect from his teammates.
Dinobot - ohohhhhggg dinobot.... transforms into a velociraptor. dedicated warrior, follows an honour code, smelly, cannibal. THE best character
in the predacon corner:
Megatron - yesssss. transforms into a tyrannosaurus rex. this is the best megatron this is the best one. theatrical, evil, self centred, cunning. the best character
Scorpanok - megatron's number one. transforms into a scorpion. seriously hes the only capable one here. loyalty and smarts are few and far between on the predacon side
Tarantulus - tech guy. transforms into a tarantula. seriously such a freak. sadistic, intelligent, narcissistic. hes like if medic from tf2 had no charm
Waspinator - hes waspinator. transforms into a wasp. i cannot believe i didnt like him hes waspinator. best character
Terrorsaur - SKRAW!! transforms into a pteranodon. honestly do not remember much about this guy besdies him screaming a lot
